Upward Bound Math & Science Summer Academy Program

Summer Academy

Between June 1 - July 10, we offer a FREE non-residential academic camp provided on the main campus of to simulate a college experience.

UBMS teachers use this time to help students strengthen their skills in math, science, English and Spanish. The program includes:

  • Transportation
  • Outings such as college visits, STEM enrichment field trips and more
  • Daily breakfast and lunch
  • Fun activities

Those students that attend 10 or more classes are eligible to attend our end of camp UBMS trip to Atlanta, Ga., from July 6-9.

Who Qualifies for the UBMS Summer Academy

  1. UBMS is open to rising high school students who will be in grades 9-12 during the 2026-27 school year or age 13-17 and are interested in STEM. 

  2. UBMS students come from five different regions and attend the following high schools:
    • LaRue County High School
    • Nelson County High School
    • North Hardin High School
    • Thomas Nelson High School
    • Washington County High School

  3. Meet Federal Income Guidelines and be a First-generation college student.
    1. First-generation students have parents who do not have bachelor™s degrees (4-yr college degrees)
    2. Must meet Federal Low-Income Guidelines
    3. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.

Summer Bridge Services

The UBMS Scholarship covers cost of two KCTCS 91¸£ÀûÉç Classes (maximum of 6 credit hours) in introductory math, science or FYE classes. The TRIO EOC office on 's campus helps graduating UBMS students with college enrollment. UBMS participants take these classes during the summer between their senior year of high school and freshman year of college. Students also receive: 

  • Stipends
  • Access to Student Support Services
  • Summer Trip
